Soju Bloody Mary
Bloody Mary's were a rarity for me since I stay away from vodka, but this weekend I discovered that Queenstown Pub in Little Italy makes them with soju! This is my favorite brunch spot. They have some of the heartiest brunch options on their weekend menu, for when you need a little hair of the dog and some carbs to soak up your previous night's decisions.
For anyone unfamiliar with soju, it is a Korean alcoholic drink that tastes similar to vodka, only less harsh. If you would like to learn more about it, you can here Soju: Everything You Need to Know About Korea's National Drink.
I love to make cocktails and used to bartend, so anything cool I can make at home I am always excited about. Naturally I looked up recipes for this when I got home, and plan on trying this as soon as possible.
Ingredients:
- 2 oz. soju
- 4 oz. tomato juice
- 1/2 teaspoon freshly grated wasabi or 1 teaspoon wasabi paste
- 1/2 teaspoon freshly grated ginger
- 1/2 teaspoon soy sauce
- 1/2 teaspoon Sriracha hot sauce
- Freshly ground pepper to taste
- Juice from 1/2 lime
Garnishes as desired:
- Celery stalk
- Tomato
- Lime or lemon wedge
- Cucumber spear
- Pickled asparagus spear
- Crispy bacon
- Flake salt for the rim
Directions:
Combine all of the ingredients into a cocktail shaker, add ice and shake to combine thoroughly. Once evenly mixed, strain into a glass filled with fresh ice, and add any (if not all) garnishes you would like! Also, a follow up post highlighting their brunch menu will come soon.
Until then, sip away!
