West Coast Tavern, San Diego, CA | Monkeypod, Maui, HI

Hi all!

Now that I am home from a gorgeous wedding in Maui, HI, it's back to exploring San Diego. I came across a place called West Coast Tavern in the North Park neighborhood. Unbeknownst to me this turned out to be a Seattle Seahawks bar, so if any 12's are down in SD and want to catch a game, this is your place.

My SO and I had brunch here while waiting for our pup to be done with her check up at the vet. Luckily we had some time to kill because we were able to sit and enjoy a brunch appetizer before we ate.

Behold the Toast Flight - Avocado & Egg, Bacon & Brie, and Goat Cheese & Lavender.

It was delicious and looks lovely.

This place is definitely on my list to go back and try other menus. They also have a quite a large back room for football and other large gatherings. All around this is a great spot for day-after recovery brunch or late night fare and cocktails.

Now let me throw some island info your way-

Monkeypod Kitchen by Merrimen - it's a rad little nautical/tropical themed spot, we visited the Wailea location.

A "first trip to Hawaii" necessity is getting a Mai Tai, so Mai Tai's we got.

I am not one for sweet drinks, or rum for that matter, but good God this is delicious. Any cocktail that is served that you can visibly see the amount of alcohol that's in it, I am down for. It comes with this light, smooth, honey-lilikoi foam on top.

I had reached out to a friend of mine who hails from the islands and asked for suggestions that were not just cliché tourist things like, "I'm an ass and just got my hair braided". Good luck rocking that hair at work on Monday Susan.

So, Monkeypod was the place of choice. If he's in, I'm in.

If you're going to pop your Hawaii 'must-do' Mai Tai cherry, I would absolutely check this place out. The next time I find myself on island time I hope to be able to enjoy some food with my cocktail but that will have to be sometime in the future.

Mahalo,

Kally
